First of all I would like to thank Fiona and David from the U.K. for their donation for the Chavalos. Thank you for staying at our place, the interesting stories and caring for the kids!
We will buy some nice T-shirts with your contribution!
'Thank you' also to John from Idaho for bringing over a bunch of pens & pencils and literally hundreds of toothbrushes!! When word got out about these, several young mothers came by the hotel with their little kids to ask for theirs. It's nice to see that people help out each other.
Steven from New Jersey has been treating not only the street kids, but almost everybody he meets to freshly baked pizza. Today he took a bunch of poor kids out to Telepizza to have lunch. Jose Angel could bring some of his friends over, so they could enjoy some pizza as well. They all saved a piece so they could share it with some of their friends! It's touching to see how one poor kid takes care of another...
Jose Angel is still making his bracelets and necklaces. As you know he's also making paintings now. He is very creative and adores experimenting with colors and different techniques.
He's extremely frugal and saves every penny he earns for when he really needs it. Like when he goes over to Nindiri to visit his Mom, he always brings her some of his earnings. Yesterday I noticed that on some days he takes out 50 cordobas ($2.50) to buy some rice, beans, platanos and some left over cut-offs from the market. I gave him a cook pot and a frying pan a while ago, and they still use it to cook at the lake. Sometimes they catch some fish which they clean and cook on a camp fire.
I'm always moved when I hear about these occasions.Just a little goes a long way here!
For the price of a soda you can feed a bunch of hungry boys.
For the price of a day at the movies you can feed a dozen of hungry mouths at Doña Esperanza's stand on the market...
Let me know, give me some feedback...
Would it be an interesting idea to sell some of Jose Angel's bracelets or paintings on ebay?
Would this help to raise some funds?
