Last Saturday was Mother's day here in Nicaragua.
A VERY important day here.
It amazes me every year how many street children, whom have been kicked out of the house, still save up some money making bracelets or grasshoppers to buy a cake or some cups or glasses for their mother.
Chucking your kids out on the street is so normal here that nobody ever considers it inhuman or odd.
I'm sure that if you would do this with a dog in the States, or in Europe that you would get into big trouble.
Here... it doesn't even matter if it's a human being.
It almost broke my heart, but one guy, Gabriel, wanted to buy his grandmother a cake for her special day. He's very proud of her... And very thankful.
Of course he couldn't pay for one...
So he suggested that I would pay for the cake, and he wouldn't get food for 2 months.
We talked about it, and he understood that if I would pay for the cake, I would have to do so for everybody...
His granny is so special, she's almost blind, but Gabriel helps her carry her famous stew that she sells in the market and helps her in and around her house.
His nana is more important than the hot meals, he told me...
