Wow...

You know... after dealing with extreme poverty for several years now, it never ceases to amaze me how social and united poor people/children really are.

For the last decades, Nicaragua has been quite poor.
But it is only recently that the UNO pronounced Nicaragua as THE poorest country of whole Latin America.
Things have never been so bad around here.

And still, people who have nothing give to people who need it even more.
Like today... when I gave the money to one of the guys to go and order the food at the market stand of Doña Esperanza.
Unfortunately her sister had passed away early that morning.
People here don't have a bank account with savings.
So she was asking everybody on the market to make a small donation.
And everybody did so, because they knew that Doña Esperanza needed any help she could get, and they knew that she would do the same thing if somebody else was in that situation.

But what surprised me even more was that more than half of the street children didn't order their hot meal. Instead they donated the money to Doña Esperanza.
For some of the street children it is the only decent meal that they get all week.
Some walk up to me and ask: "How many days before I can eat a meal again?"
It warms your heart to see that these kids care about that grandmother who, with her granddaughter, take care of their meals.
When some of the kids have had a tough day, she slips them a little something to eat at no charge. She is a wonderful woman, and they all know that.
That's why they feel her grief, and that's why they want to help her out in times of need...
