Today, June 25th, Eynar would have celebrated his 22nd birthday. His family invited me over to go to the cemetery.
They were already waiting for me at the bus stop in El Raizon.
From here, we took the bus to KM17 where we crossed the busy road and took a little motor-taxi.
I had never traveled in one, and we were 6 (!) people in a little motorbike cab.
The cemetery was in the middle of nowhere, the taxi driver charged us $1.25 for the 5 of us.
I felt sorry for his vehicle when it had to pull us up a steep hill.
We fell without gas as well, but the driver came prepared and had a small water bottle stashed away with more gas.
Once we arrived at the cemetery, we had to go ask for the key of the gate(!) in a convenience store nearby.Eynar's final resting place was at the far end of the cemetery.
Right next to a green field of a farm, under the shade of a huge tree.
A very nice spot...
His brothers were explaining me that the people buried around Eynar are his great grandmother, Juliana and great grandfather, Julio .
Two people that he cared for a lot.
On the other side of his grave lies his cousin, Manuel.
Not too long ago, Eynar attended his funeral...
Now they are back together.
With great care his grave was cleaned and decorated... it looked very good.
When we were ready to go, Augusto Cesar said... We haven't wished Eynar Feliz Cumpleaños yet...
Everybody wished him a Happy Birthday...
His mom said: Have a Happy birthday, my son... Grandma sends you her best. The brothers and myself wished him a Happy Birthday as well.
I had difficulty speaking as tears from sadness were rolling down my cheeks again.
Eynar's brothers gave me a big hug and assured me that he's fine, there, up in heaven. Then it dawned on us that there had been playing Rock music in the house across the street the whole time.
Eynar was a huge Rock fan. I recognized the music that I was hearing, but I didn't recognize the lyrics... they were in Spanish...
But then I recognized: una escalera al cielo... or: Stairway to heaven.
The Spanish version of the old Led Zeppelin song.
While we walked back to the gate where we came in, I thought: He's in good company...
