Doña Esperanza just came by to collect the money for tomorrow's meals.
She told me that yesterday, she had her worst day ever.
It seemed that everything that could go wrong... did go wrong.
Sales at her comedor were at an all time low.
She had so much chicken and other things left.
And with no refrigeration, she had to give everything away for free to the chavalos and some elderly poor people that she knows.
Pure loss, she said, shaking her head.
On top of that, thieves had forced open the metal of her roof in the bathroom.
From there, they stole her clothes and shoes.
"Mis viejos trapitos" she said... my old rags.
It's all I have, or had, and these old shoes with holes that I'm wearing now.
Who would do such a thing, I ask myself.
When Daniel, one of our guests heard her tell her sad story, he spontaneously offered buy her two pairs of shoes.
You should have seen her tears of joy when she heard that!
When I asked her how the Chavalos are behaving, she said: Gracias a Dios, very well!!
They are a little bit her kids as well!
