Francisco & Michael

Francisco came by today. Clearly in a lot of pain.
Left and right on his upper inside leg were 2 hard and swollen veins.
He'd been walking around with it 3 days before he came by to ask for help.
As I am no doctor, and I had no idea what it could be, I sent him to the Japanese Hospital.
There, because he is a street kid and not very clean, they refused to attend to him.
This happens regularly. A while ago I went there with a worker who cut half his thumb off with a sanding machine. We were waiting in the ER area for more than 2 hours when I went looking what was going terribly wrong. There were only 3 people in the waiting room! The three doctors that were on duty were drinking coffee and chatting. Because they are underpaid, that is their way to make up for it. The little kid, an old man and Chico, our worker were of no interest to them.
It is generally known that if you want to be attended to quickly, you have to give them 500 cordoba (in a hospital for the people where help is supposed to be free!). It's still a lot cheaper than going to a private hospital.
Anyway... we got Francisco all cleaned up, new shirt and pants (Thanks Kevin & Nicole!!) so he could get some medical attention. He had an IV drip and some medication and everything seemed a little bit better now.

Michael was down and out. He's this silent guy that you hardly notice. A low maintenance boy who doesn't want to bother anyone. I had one shirt left and one pair of pants! He got a shower and a complete make over. He felt so much better! It doesn't take a lot to make somebody really happy!
