Some general thoughts...

Everybody knows that the world we live in today isn't the same as the world we lived in a year or so ago.
Foreclosures, job loss, uncertainties, less income, ... The list goes on and on.
I didn't think this whole situation would have a big impact on the people in the street of Granada.
But it had, and it does...
Not only has business here never been so slow because there are less tourists. The ones that do come stay shorter periods of time and tend to spend a lot less money while they are here.
They skip a tour or two, eat at more affordable restaurants, don't even consider having a massage any more...
This is understandable, but it has a huge impact on this city, which gets it's major income from tourism. And there is nothing that anybody can do about it until the whole situation restores itself back to normal. But when will this be... who knows!
Families who didn't have problems months ago, suddenly find themselves in great difficulty.
I see it everywhere around me... They pawn or sell the things they saved so hard for in order to buy rice & beans. A couple of days ago a worker from the hotel told me that the day before, the only thing he had eaten was the hot dog that I had given him.
It gets really confronting when you see the elderly people in the streets begging for some bread or some change so that they can buy the medication they need to take.
Another worker skipped the antibiotics treatment from his daughter (2 months old) because his family ran out of money. She has pneumonia.
There used to be an old lady sitting in front of the pharmacy. Now... there are dozens of needy old people trying to get a little something from the "wealthy" visitors from abroad.
One can only hope that things will get back to normal real soon...
