What a busy week...!

Last week was a very busy one. That's why you haven't seen any updates lately.

But last week was also a very good one. At least for a couple of chavalos for whom we found a house (yes, a house!) to live in.

It wasn't easy to find even a room. But this is a great find. It is a respectful neighborhood. It is a safe place to live, there is water and electricity... even street lights.

The original idea was to rent the house for 2 chavalos. Jose Angel and Marvin. But, as things in the tropics never go the way you plan them, 4 people are living there now.
Jose Angel went home with some medication he had bought here in Granada for his sick mother.
He was supposed to be back the same night, but I called him up, and he told me there were problems in his family. I assumed they were about his stepfather, but they turned out to be about his own mother. Now that she found out that Jose Angel was about to move from the streets to a real house, she decided that his two younger brothers needed to leave her house as well. So when Jose Angel arrived here in Granada, he not only brought his toothbrush and a change of clothes, but also his two brothers.
After Jose Angel showed them around in Granada and after taking them to the lake for a swim, they all went to the house and spent the first night there. No furniture, no beds or mattresses, no towels or chairs. Nothing but an empty house! And nobody complained.
I don't know how it will go from here. It's at times like these that one starts to think: what have I gotten myself into!
Anyway, I hope that everything will work out fine. We need to get a lot of stuff:
cups, plates, knives and forks, a washing up basin, beds and mattresses, sheets and towels.
A table and chairs, later maybe a stove, pots and pans. A refrigerator, ...

Having a house to live in is a big step to a normal life. No more sleeping in windy alleys, no more running from the sudden rain. No more being robbed at night when their flip flops disappeared. No more harassment from the police, street thieves and bad weather!

I just checked, and everybody is hard at work mopping the floor and doing the laundry in the "Lavandera" a concrete sink with a ribbed surface designed to wash clothes.

With the rainy season getting near, this house will be a great help to have a much better life.
It'll sure make studying and making homework a lot more pleasant!

So... what I wanted to ask you now is... Could you please contribute to getting the stuff to make the house a home? We already have found a generous person (thanks plenty!!!) whom wanted to pay the rent and a months deposit. It is all the rest that we need to get accomplished still.

Here is the information:

It appears that Jose Angel got the dream house he was hoping for.
And Marvin is just glad to have a roof over his head.
Any contributions that you can make to help accomplish this dream would be truly appreciated!
Be a part of their future! Any donations or unwanted household goods will help these boys survive.
Donations will help offset the cost of electricity and water.
