We went to the nearby market to check out some things for "Casa Chavalos" or the Chavalos House. The little electric cooker has given up on the boys (these things are not designed to be used for a longer period. Cooking beans takes a long time...) , so we looked for, and found a Fogonero. It looks like a BBQ to you and me, but it has one open side to slide in "Leña" or dry wood.
Most people in Nicaragua still cook on wood. We got a Porra, or cooking pot with lid, used to cook beans. It has a thick wall so that the beans do not burn.
We also got a good chain with lock to put on the front door gate.
A couple of times somebody had been in the house while the guys were away.
We don't know if it was the previous renter or somebody else... what we do know that some of their clothes and shoes disappeared.
Some extra safety measures never hurt!
Also, with the gate locked, they can leave the front door open so that there is a natural draft without having to worry about somebody walking into the house uninvited.
We bought a galon of cooking oil. Sugar, toilet paper, Tang, ketchup, pasta, chile, coffee (!!), and some more things.
Today the guys went shopping for platanos, tomatoes, onions, garlic (they seem to be refined cooks!), ...
They also got chicken wings, drum sticks (chicken legs), and fresh liver that is momentarily stored in my fridge!
There is still money left for more things.
A closet or drawer storage is on the wishlist... but first things first.
Every visit the house seems to be more comfortable.
The first week everybody slept on the tile floor, and even then there were no complaints!
Now they have everything that they could dream of, and more!
