Gabriel...

Here is the picture of Gabriel that I promised you.

He asked me for $5 to go to Managua, to visit his aunt and his brother.

He hadn't seen them in over 2 years. Although the bus fair to Managua is only $1 each way, he never had the money to spare to go.

So I gave him $5 from the Chavalos account, and he bought rice and beans with it, so he wouldn't arrive empty handed. And he paid his fare with it.

I had given him a calling card, in case there was something. And two hours after he left, he called me up saying that he arrived well.
I had to talk to his aunt, who was ever so pleased to see him again after all this time.
And I talked to his brother, who asked me if Gabriel was behaving well here in Granada!
He told me that they look very much alike, although they're not twins.

He will be back in Granada this Saturday.

Gabriel had some rough times in the past, but he is dedicated to his family now. He lives with his grandmother here in Granada. She's almost blind, but still sells some kind of stew on the market every day. Gabriel helps her get there and set up her store. He looks after her, and in the evening he carries everything back to her little house.

Let me know if you would like to financially support him. $5 a week would be super.
