La Gigantona...

I just told you about "La Gigantona".
The giant doll which brings laughter and entertainment to the tourists on the terraces.
Underneath her clothes hides a whole different story.
It is the bedroom of a couple of young kids who are sleeping in the park. One, as you know has had a colostomy.

Before, they could sleep under the entrance roof of the Cathedral, or the pergola of the Bishop palace on the town square.
Now, both these places are closed off with high fences to keep the poor people away.
They are unwanted, but all the were looking for was a dry place to spend the night.
I used to walk under those roofs as well, as they were the only option to walk in the shade on a hot day!
Now the people sit on the steps, just outside of the place.
I took these pictures at 6:30 am, this morning.

The newspaper and the TV news reported that it was a scandal to keep out the poor like this.
The Priest defended his decision to put a high fence around these places during Mass.

The poor don't understand why they've spend thousands of dollars on these fences while they're hungry and unprotected from sun and rain.

Nobody seems to be interested in what they need or think.
It seems like the statue, that now stands behind two fences, tells them: "talk to the hand".
Everybody has their own truth.
