It seems like the unlucky luck streak is continuing for Diego Manuel and his family.
After saving up some money to do some major repairs to their house during the rainy season, Diego Manuel got robbed on the way to the hardware store. He was carrying $150 to order all the items and have them delivered. He got badly stabbed in his arm. His hand is suffering severe inflammation. And... of course the work on the house can't get finished now. He was riding on his bike. Fortunately, they didn't steal that.
It doesn't seem to end. After loosing his father and his young wife, now this. Last week they already tried to mug him as well, but he got away without too much damage.
Although the government tries to convince everybody that the situation for poor families has gotten a lot better over the last couple of years, I haven't noticed a lot of it here in Granada. It seems like more and more street children are showing up. 4 friends got assaulted in the last week and a half. Always in poor areas. People who have close to nothing get robbed by even poorer people. Diego here got attacked twice in one week, Raul, one of our workers in the farm got assaulted by 3 guys and lost his bike, one of our neighbors, Doug, got attacked by a kid waving a machete! I never heard things like this a while ago.
Some people say it will get worse. Well, I hope not.
Thank you James and John for your support.
We will use your donations to do good things for the Chavalos!!
